IFX Brokers Review: What South African Traders Should Know
IFX Brokers is one of the few genuinely South African-headquartered brokers on our list, based in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, and operating since 2016. This page covers what we’ve verified directly, including its FSCA-authorised entity, and is honest about what we’re still confirming.
Is IFX Brokers Actually Regulated for South Africans?
We don’t take “FSCA regulated” at face value from any broker’s marketing. Here’s what we checked for IFX Brokers specifically, and how you can check it yourself in a couple of minutes.
Situation 1: Named FSCA-Authorised South African Entity
IFX Brokers’ South African operations are conducted through IFX Brokers Holdings (PTY) Ltd, authorised by the FSCA under FSP number 48021. That’s a named South African company with its own FSP licence, and unlike many other brokers on our list, IFX Brokers is genuinely headquartered in South Africa itself, based in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, rather than being an international broker with a South African subsidiary.
We’d encourage you to check this yourself: search FSP number 48021 and “IFX Brokers Holdings” on the FSCA’s public register at fsca.co.za to confirm the licence is active before you fund an account.
Other Group Licences
IFX Brokers is primarily a South African broker without the multi-jurisdiction group structure of some of the international brokers on our list. It is also described as having an authorised Electronic Money Institution status in the UK, though this covers operational rather than trading functions. Its primary regulatory authority is the FSCA.
What We’re Still Confirming
Account-specific conditions, current spread and commission levels per account tier, and any trading restrictions are part of our deeper, account-level review. The entity name and FSP number above are confirmed; the trading condition details are what we’re still working through.
What You’ll Actually Trade On
IFX Brokers supports MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. No cTrader or TradingView integration.
MetaTrader 4
The older and still widely used of the two MetaTrader platforms. Known for stability, a large library of custom indicators and expert advisors, and broad familiarity among traders who’ve used it for years across other brokers.
MetaTrader 5
The newer MetaTrader platform, with more built-in timeframes, order types and a broader range of tradable asset classes in one terminal. Worth choosing if you’re starting fresh rather than migrating an existing MT4 setup.
IFX Brokers App
MetaTrader 5 is the newer of the two, with more built-in timeframes, order types and a broader asset class range. Worth choosing if you’re not migrating an existing MT4 setup.
How IFX Brokers Structures Its Accounts
Cent, Standard, Premium and VIP.
Cent Account
The entry-level option, with trades denominated in cents rather than whole units, allowing real-money trading at a smaller scale. Suited to new traders building confidence.
Standard Account
The main retail account, with cost built into the spread. A low minimum deposit makes it accessible to traders at an early stage.
Premium & VIP Accounts
Higher-deposit tiers reported to offer tighter spreads and lower commissions. VIP is the highest tier, typically requiring a larger minimum deposit in exchange for the most competitive pricing.
Funding Your Account From South Africa
IFX Brokers explicitly supports ZAR as a base currency, which is a practical advantage for South African traders avoiding currency conversion costs.
Deposits & Withdrawals
IFX Brokers supports ZAR base accounts and, as a South African-headquartered broker, is expected to support local payment options. We haven’t independently confirmed the specific current payment methods and processing times, so check this directly during sign-up.
Exchange Control
Trading through a broker based outside South Africa involves moving funds offshore, which falls under South African exchange control rules. This isn’t personal financial or tax advice. If you’re unsure how these rules apply to your situation, a licensed advisor can walk you through it properly.
Where IFX Brokers Holds Up, and Where to Look Closer
Based on what we’ve verified so far. This isn’t a numeric score, and it will get more specific once our full account-level review is published.
